Our score: 8.0 out of 10 Research-based, not lab-tested

Updated

  • 35 dB(A) Noise at lowest setting
  • 3 months Filter life (maker's estimate)
  • 10 L/day Dehumidifying
  • 2.5 L Water tank

Pros

  • Removes up to 10 L a day at 30°C/80% RH, or 6 L at 27°C/60% RH
  • HEPA filter included, with a purifier-only mode for summer
  • 35 dB on low fan; Night mode turns off the lights and beeps
  • Can be wall-mounted with Meaco's bracket, sold separately
  • Five-year Meaco warranty once the unit is registered

Cons

  • No published CADR; its 100 m³/h top airflow makes air cleaning slow
  • 2.5 L tank; no timer, app or air-quality sensor
  • HEPA filter due every three months or so; 10L packs were out of stock at Meaco
Best for
Flats and two-bedroom homes with condensation that want a quiet dehumidifier which also filters dust and pollen-sized particles.
Not for
Larger homes or anyone who mainly wants a purifier; its airflow is a fraction of a living-room purifier's.

Our verdict

The Arete One 10L is the size Meaco suggests for flats and one- or two-bedroom homes, going up a size if you dry laundry indoors or live in an old, poorly ventilated house. Meaco rates it at 10 litres a day at 30°C and 80% RH and 6 litres at 27°C and 60% RH; at 20°C and 60% RH, nearer a British winter, its table gives 4.34 litres. The tank holds 2.5 litres.

Treat the purifier side as a bonus. Meaco publishes no CADR, and airflow of 80 to 100 m³/h means it filters a room slowly whatever the filter. Meaco calls that filter H13, but elsewhere in its Arete copy it quotes 99.75% at 0.3 microns, below the 99.95% its own help centre gives for the class, so read H13 as Meaco’s label. Air Purification mode filters without drying, for summer.

It is quiet, at 35 dB on low and 38 dB on high, and Meaco’s page lists a wall-mount option, with the bracket sold separately. There is no timer, app or particle sensor. Weighing it against a purifier for a damp flat? Our guide to air purifiers and dehumidifiers for mould explains what each does.

Filters and running costs

Change the HEPA filter when it turns from white to grey, roughly every three months. It comes in packs of three (MeacoDryArete10L/12LHepaFilter), and both that pack and the charcoal alternative were out of stock at Meaco when we checked. The dust filter needs cleaning at least every two weeks to keep the five-year registered warranty valid. Rated power is 163 W, so eight hours of drying uses at most about 1.3 kWh.

Living with it

Of the 34 owner reviews we read, all on Meaco’s UK and Irish stores, seven say it clears condensation or collects plenty of water, four that it dries washing quickly, one overnight, and six that it is simple to run; two like that it shows the humidity and stops at the target. The complaints are single reports: one owner found it pulled far less water than an older Meaco in the same spot and its purifier mode of little use, and another found the tank spills easily when emptied.

Meaco MeacoDry Arete One 10L Dehumidifier and Air Purifier questions

What size of home is the Meaco Arete One 10L for?

Meaco suggests a 10 to 12 litre dehumidifier for flats and one- or two-bedroom homes, and a size up if you dry laundry indoors or the house is old and poorly ventilated. The 10-litre rating is measured at 30°C and 80% RH; at 20°C and 60% RH, nearer a British winter, Meaco gives about 4.3 litres a day.

Can the Meaco Arete One 10L be mounted on a wall?

Yes. Meaco’s product page lists a wall-mount option, and its store sells the Arete wall mounting bracket separately. The store doesn’t say which Arete sizes the bracket fits, so check with Meaco before ordering. Standing on the floor, it can go as close to a wall as you like, as long as the air inlet is kept clear of curtains.

Is the Arete One 10L quieter without the HEPA filter?

Yes, by 4 to 5 dB, Meaco says, but without the filter it only dehumidifies. With the filter fitted, the air is filtered whenever the fan runs. Meaco quotes 35 dB on low and 38 dB on high, and Night mode drops the fan to low, stops the beeps and turns off all the display lights.

What does E1 mean on a Meaco Arete 10L?

E1 flashing can mean the room is below 15°C, or that the dust filter or the humidity sensor on the back needs vacuuming. E2 means clean the dust filter and humidity sensor. L3 means the room is too warm, so keep it at 40°C or below, and L4 means it is too cold, so keep it at 2°C or above.

How do I drain the Arete One 10L continuously?

Fit a standard garden hose with a 12.5 mm internal diameter to the adaptor supplied; no hose is included, and it has to run downhill. That saves emptying the 2.5-litre tank by hand, which matters in a damp room. Meaco lists its Arete pump for the 18 to 25 litre models, not this one, so drainage has to be downhill.
