Our verdict

The HushJet Purifier Compact (HJ10, White/Silver part 491121-01) is Dyson’s smallest purifier: 47 cm tall, 23 cm across and 3.15 kg, sized for a bedside table or desk. It only purifies; its manual has no cooling or heating mode. Dyson quotes 24 dB in night mode and 41 dB on maximum, the only Dyson noise figures we found. The MyDyson app connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Instead of a HEPA filter it uses a 360° electrostatic filter, which Dyson tested at 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns to IEST-RP-CC001.7; it isn’t a classed HEPA filter. An activated-carbon filter sits inside it for odours. Dyson says the electrostatic filter keeps performing for about five years at 12 hours a day, until its CADR halves. None of the pages we read says whether the filter carries an active charge, or gives an ozone figure.

Dyson still publishes no CADR. UK listings give coverage up to 100 m², but Dyson’s own footnote rests on an 81 m³ test room, so treat it as a one-room purifier. It draws 19 W at most, so 12 hours on maximum uses about 0.23 kWh. For other quiet options, see our best air purifiers for bedrooms.

Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact (HJ10) questions

How long does the filter last in the Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact?

Dyson says the electrostatic filter keeps performing for about five years at 12 hours a day, measured to GB/T 18801-2022 as the point where its CADR falls by half. The activated-carbon filter inside it is replaced when the screen or app says so; no UK page we read gives an interval for it, or part numbers for either filter.

Does the Dyson HushJet Compact have a HEPA filter?

No. It uses a 360° electrostatic filter that Dyson tested at 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns to IEST-RP-CC001.7, but that is not a HEPA class. A separate activated-carbon filter sits inside it for odours. None of the pages we read says whether the filter is actively charged, or gives an ozone figure for the machine.

How do I reset the filter life on the Dyson HushJet Compact?

Hold the Fan button for five seconds to reset the electrostatic filter, and the Info button for five seconds to reset the carbon filter. To change filters, unplug, press the release buttons on the sides and lift the machine off its filters; when refitting, line up the slot in the electrostatic filter with the cable cover and slide the machine down until it clicks.

Can I use the Dyson HushJet Compact without Wi-Fi?

Yes. It starts in auto mode, the Fan button changes speed, and pressing Fan and waiting two seconds puts it in sleep mode, with airflow at speed 4 and a dimmed screen. Holding the standby button for five seconds turns Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off or back on. The MyDyson app adds speed settings 1 to 10 and the sleep timer.

How do I clean the nozzle on a Dyson HushJet purifier?

Unscrew it anticlockwise, wash it, and let it dry fully before refitting. While it’s off, check the sensor inlets round the back for dust. The filters aren’t cleaned but replaced, with filter life reset from the Fan and Info buttons. Before first use, remove all the packaging, including around the plug and cable.
