Our verdict

The Purifier Humidify+Cool PH2 De-NOx (UK model PH05, part 544587-01) is a humidifier, purifier and fan in one. It adds moisture to dry air and filters it in three stages: HEPA H13, a K-carbon layer, and a catalytic oxidisation layer that Dyson says breaks down formaldehyde. In summer it is a fan, not air conditioning, as Dyson’s footnote says. Four sensors, one for formaldehyde, drive auto mode.

The water side is the commitment: Dyson quotes a tank of about one gallon, without litres, up to 36 hours of humidifying per fill and a monthly deep clean cycle. That makes it a machine for dry winter air: in a home with condensation or mould it would add moisture, and our guide to air purifiers and dehumidifiers for mould explains what helps instead.

As with every Dyson, there is no published CADR, only a test in an 81 m³ room. We couldn’t read a PH05 manual (the one a retailer links is for another model), and no UK page we read gives the filter part number, a change interval, a noise figure or power use. It oscillates through 90° and has a diffused mode that humidifies without cooling you.

Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool PH2 De-NOx (PH05) questions

How often do I need to run the deep clean on a Dyson Humidify+Cool PH2?

Monthly, Dyson says. The deep clean cycle starts at the touch of a button and the machine guides you through each step. We couldn’t read a PH05 manual, so we can’t confirm the descaling agent or amount it needs; follow the instructions in the box. Dyson also says an ultraviolet light treats the water inside the machine.

How long does a full tank last on the Dyson Humidify+Cool?

Up to 36 hours of humidifying, by Dyson’s figure, from a tank Dyson describes as about one gallon. It doesn’t give the capacity in litres or say whether that is a UK or US gallon, so we’ve left the tank out of our specs. Treat 36 hours as Dyson’s maximum rather than a typical figure.

Which filter fits the Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool PH2 De-NOx (PH05)?

Its replacement filter combines HEPA H13 and K-carbon, but no UK page we could read gives the part number, so confirm it with Dyson using your machine’s serial number before buying. The screen and MyDyson app tell you when the filter needs replacing. We couldn’t confirm whether the catalytic layer is permanent on this model.

Can the Dyson Humidify+Cool humidify without blowing cold air?

Yes. Diffused mode sends air out of the back of the machine, so it purifies and humidifies the room without a cooling breeze. Night mode uses the quietest settings with a dimmed display, and the sleep timer runs from 15 minutes to 9 hours. Oscillation is 90°, narrower than on Dyson’s purifier fans.

Should I use the Dyson PH2 in a damp home?

No. It adds moisture, so it suits dry winter air rather than condensation or mould. UK damp guidance says the source of the moisture has to be found and fixed, with extractor fans and ventilation, and Asthma + Lung UK says dehumidifiers can help prevent condensation. A dehumidifier with a filter, such as Meaco’s Arete range, does the opposite job.
