Winix's compact smart purifier: particle sensor, auto mode, app control, a carbon stage and one filter set a year, at the low end of the range.
Updated
- 250 m³/h Clean air delivery rate (CADR)
- 50 m² Recommended room size
- 26.5 dB(A) Noise at lowest setting
- 12 months Filter life (maker's estimate)
Pros
- CADR of 250 m³/h, enough for a room of about 20 m² at five air changes an hour
- One all-in-one Filter O set (pre-filter, carbon, HEPA) lasts about 12 months
- Winix app control, with a dust sensor and auto mode
- PlasmaWave ioniser has its own off button and switches off in sleep mode
- An extra year of warranty if you register within six months of purchase
Cons
- No HEPA class (H13 or H14) stated; Winix quotes 99.97% at 0.3 microns
- PlasmaWave ioniser is on by default each time it is switched on
- Pre-filter can be vacuumed or brushed but not washed
- Sold only by Winix as far as we found, with no delivery to Northern Ireland
- Best for
- A bedroom or small living room of up to about 20 m² where you want app control and a once-a-year filter change.
- Not for
- Rooms much over 25 m² or open-plan spaces; the T800 moves twice as much air.
Our verdict
The T500 WiFi is the smallest connected purifier Winix sells in the UK. A dust sensor drives auto mode, a coloured light shows the air quality, and the Winix app lets you run it away from the unit. Winix rates it at a CADR of 250 m³/h without naming a test standard, which by our five-air-changes rule suits a room of about 20 m²; Winix’s own 50 m² figure implies about two air changes an hour.
Everything sits in one Filter O cartridge: a pre-filter, a carbon layer for smells and a HEPA layer Winix rates at 99.97% of 0.3-micron particles without naming a class. Winix says the set lasts about a year, and the same Filter O fits the Zero Compact, A330 and A332, which should help availability.
PlasmaWave, Winix’s ioniser, comes on by default but has its own button and switches off in sleep mode, so you can run the T500 on its filters alone. Winix says ECARF tests found its purifiers emit under 0.01 ppm of ozone; that is the maker’s own claim. For other bedroom-sized picks, see our best air purifiers for bedrooms.
Filters and running costs
Filter O goes in through the base: turn the unit over, twist off the bottom cover, remove the plastic wrap and push the cartridge in open end first. Vacuum or brush the pre-filter about every two weeks and the dust sensor every two months; neither the pre-filter nor the HEPA layer can be washed. When the filter light comes on, fit a new set and hold the recessed reset button for five seconds. It draws 12 W on its lowest speed and 55 W at the top, so eight hours uses about 0.1 to 0.44 kWh. Our filter finder lists Filter O.

Winix T500 WiFi questions
Which replacement filter fits the Winix T500?
Winix Filter O, part 1712-0110-04, sold on Winix’s UK webshop as 1712-0110-04-UK. It is an all-in-one set with a pre-filter, a carbon filter and a HEPA filter, and the same cartridge fits the Winix Zero Compact, A330 and A332. Winix expects it to last about 12 months, less in a smoky or dusty home.
How often should the Winix T500 filter be changed?
About once a year. Winix expects the Filter O cartridge to last around 12 months, and a smoky or dusty home can shorten that; the filter light comes on when it is due. Weak airflow with the filter light on is another sign the cartridge is spent. In between, vacuum or brush the pre-filter about every 14 days.
How do I reset the filter light on a Winix T500?
Press the recessed reset button with a straightened paper clip for at least five seconds, until the filter light goes out. Do it after fitting the new Filter O cartridge. You can also reset the filter timer in the Winix app, which you pair with the purifier by holding the Wi-Fi button for three seconds.
Can I wash the pre-filter on a Winix T500?
No. The pre-filter is part of the Filter O cartridge and can’t be washed; Winix says to vacuum or brush it about every 14 days instead. The HEPA layer must never be washed either. Vacuum the dust sensor about every two months too, so auto mode keeps reading the air correctly.
Can I turn off PlasmaWave on the Winix T500, and does it make ozone?
Yes, it has its own on and off button, and sleep mode switches it off automatically. Winix states that ECARF tests found its purifiers emit less than 0.01 ppm of ozone, under the 0.05 ppm limit California’s CARB uses; that is the maker’s own claim. A faint chirp or buzz from PlasmaWave while it runs is normal, Winix says.
